Chinese Drywall Nightmare

For the past couple of months I have not felt like posting anything. I have been feeling under the weather. I was getting headaches every day, feeling sick to my stomach, exhausted for no reason. The to top it all off I had acne on my face.

On January 29th of 2011 our Landlord called and said they needed to do a wall inspection. They came in and cut holes in several walls. They covered all the holes with cardboard and left. (They left the air conditioner on 68 degrees and the front door to our place wide open, I wasn't a happy camper.)

I did not mind that they did the inspection, but they left the drywall dust laying on the floor instead of cleaning up the mess they made. Now picture it, me feeling sick, not sleeping well and coming home to this mess. I was stressed out and not a happy camper at all. Not even a day later I caught the nastiest cold I have ever had.
We tried to call the landlord to find out what was going on. I mean it had been almost 3 weeks with the holes in the walls. They never called us back.

I finally went to the real estate company that we rented through. I said we need your help, they came in and did an inspection of our walls and the landlord will not call us back. Do you know anything.

What he said hit me like a ton of bricks. "your place has Chinese drywall". I looked at him confused. I said what is Chinese drywall? He said "its the type of drywall that has been making people sick. And all of it has to be replaced."

I asked what do we do now? Hasn't the landlord contacted you? I said no.

I went back and told the boys what news I had just heard. Both of them said that it was 3rd party information and we should wait until we get official news before we act.

Two days later there was this note taped to our door.
Now that we had official news, I started searching on the internet about Chinese drywall. Here is some of the symptoms:

Acne, asthma attacks, bloody noses, congestion, coughing, problems, hair loss, headaches, hives, irritated eyes, joint and muscle pain, miscarriages, nausea, nosebleeds, phlegm, rashes, runny nose, shortness of breath, sneezing, sinus problems, sore throat, tightness of the chest, trouble breathing and urinary tract infections after being exposed to Chinese drywall

Now I know what was making me sick all the time. It was the drywall. I told the boys we have got to move and we need to move quickly.

P.s. I will continue this on tomorrow's post.

I hate that tenants are always the last to know anything.

Bless your heart. At least you all have become 'experts' at moving the last year and a half. Do you think it will be difficult to find something you like that is in the same area and is available? It would be nice if you could get some deposits back. Hopefully your health will return to normal when you are in another place.

Sorry to hear about the Chinese drywall problem. I wish you didn't have to move again and I hope the next apartment doesn't have Chinese drywall. It makes ne wonder how you can know for sure. Best of luck to you in your new place.
