One of Those Days

Have you ever had one of those days where nothing goes right?

Today was that day. I woke up with my foot arching up, a foot cramp, but instead of the cramp being on the bottom, it was on the top. There was no rubbing it out, just walking and hope it would get better.

I am unlike most, when I wake up, I cannot go back to sleep. I am awake for the rest of the day. No matter what time it is. Well since my foot woke me at 6am. I was up. I went to make coffee and spilled water everywhere. I went out to the patio to see dark gray clouds. I asked Michael and Kevin to go with me to the beach today, but I knew they wouldn't go with these clouds. I started getting depressed. I thought oh what the heck. I am going.

So I went alone. I needed time to think about where I am and where I was going.

On the way there, I had to fight rush hour. I was really getting upset. Not at the other drivers, but at myself.

Why was I here? Why did I move down? What was I thinking? Were just a few questions that was running through my head.

Once on the beach I put my towel down next to this tree and sat down with my back to the tree and just stared at the ocean.

It put me in a trance. I forgot all of the questions, all of my problems just went away.

Then it hit me, I knew why I moved down and this was it. Here its the middle of November and I am sitting in short sleeves and watching the ocean roar. Well it was more like a kitten purring. But it has the same effect. Calming.

I took out my camera and started taking pictures. I took this picture, and turned around to take another and there stood a man, I have no clue where he came from, he was just there. I said hello and smiled, he said you want to smoke me out?

I said umm smoke you out? He said you know as he did the motion of sucking on a joint. I said no, he said I saw you down here smoking. I said that was a cigarette, I turned around to walk back to my towel. Hoping he would leave.

As I sat back down, I was thinking that guy had balls, he did not know me from anyone. I saw this post with the number 2 on it. I thought I could call the police and say I am at post #2, but then I thought what was the point. It would have taken them forever to have gotten there.

I shrugged it off and started relaxing again. At this point, I was people watching. A couple walked by and stopped right in front of me, both of them bent down, pointed and stood back up and started walking again.

Another couple stopped in front of me, they looked down and then continued to walk.

A family of 4 walked right in front of me and stopped, looked down, pointed and bent down.

That got my attention. I had to see what they were all looking at. I waited until they left to see what it was.

It was a plant that washed up on shore. Just as I snapped this shot, the water rushed up. I thought it was pretty cool shot.

I looked at this pier and thought I needed to go there. I took off on foot and it was a bit of a walk, but hey I had all day to get there, it wasn't going anywhere.

It only took me 20 minutes to walk there. It cost $2.00 to walk on the pier. I went down to the very end.

Getting to the end was a bit harder than what you expect. There was about 50 people on the pier fishing. I never saw anyone catch a fish. But boy they were all serious about it.

I am almost to the end of the pier. I am looking back toward the beach. There were tons of birds. They were not ashamed of being there either. They would take food out of your hands if you would let them.

There are signs that say "Don't Feed the Birds"

Well duh, who would in the first place. Oh wait we are talking about people on vacation huh. hehe

I saw this lonely cloud, it was the only cloud in the sky that was lit up. It was like the sun was only shining on it.

From where I was standing, it looked more like a mountain.

This is looking off the pier towards the north, there are hotels as far as the eye can see.

It amazed me to think that all these places are going out of business, cause of the economy. People are just not going on vacations down here as much.

When I was looking for a job, I stopped in a bunch of them and that is what they told me. There were a few that said that the bank owns them.

This picture is looking due east. The waters looks so calm here.

In this picture you can see a ship, I think its a container ship, but it was to far for my eyes to see. I used my zoom and still couldn't tell for sure.

This is one of many birds that was on the pier.

I saw this bottle in the water and took a picture of it. I thought it was just floating there, but it was a guys bobber.

I laughed at it. I guess if you cannot afford one, then why not huh. hehe

Here is a video of the oceans roar.

I am so glad that I went. I needed it.

Yes, I've had days like that where nothing goes right. Unfortunately, I don't have a beautiful ocean beach nearby to lose my thoughts in!

You can always move back to Indiana (hey, that was a Jackson 5 song back in the day-"Going back to Indiana"), BUT if you had not moved down there, you might have regretted it and always wondered what it would have been like and whether you should've or not.

Love your pics! You're a great photographer.

Allen, your day of solitude at the beach sounded very relaxing. I hope you were able to get a lot of thinking done.

Thanks for taking me with you to the beach. I enjoyed the photos and your narrative. Glad the visit turned your mood around. The sound of the waves have a way of doing that.
